Funeral services for Robert R. “Bob” Riggin, 87, of Carmel, Indiana, formerly of Willoughby Hills, will be at 7 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM on Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10 AM at Willoughby Cemetery.
Mr. Riggin died on September 26, 2023 in Carmel, Indiana. Born December 17, 1935, in Willoughby, he lived in Willoughby, Kirtland Hills and Willoughby Hills for most of his life. He lived the past 3 years in Carmel, Indiana.
He served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia and Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia as a photographer. He was a graduate of Willoughby Union High School and was inducted into the WUHS Hall of Fame in 2006. He graduated from Ohio University with a BFA degree. At Ohio University, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Mu honorary photojournalism fraternity. He was a long-time member of the Professional Photographers of Ohio and the Professional Photographers of America. He started the photography department at Lakeland Community College, managed the department and taught numerous courses during his nine years at the college.
Bob owned and operated Riggin Studio in Willoughby for over 45 years, specializing in weddings, portrait, commercial and industrial photography. He received numerous state, national and international awards for his photographic work. During his career he photographed many local, state, and national political leaders as well as the corporate officers of many Fortune 500 corporations.
He was a member of the Willoughby United Methodist Church and the former Willoughby Lodge #302 (now Temple Lodge #28) Free and Accepted Masons. As an active member of DeMolay, he was awarded the Cheviolier Degree and the Legion of Honor Degree.
Bob was also a member and past president of the Willoughby Chamber of Commerce, and was once selected as the Willoughby Distinguished Citizen of the Year. He was also involved in the Painesville Gyro Club, the Willoughby Rotary Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
Mr. Riggin was a founding trustee and Chairman of the Arthur S. Holloway Scholarship Fund and was also a member of the Mentor Harbor Yachting Club.
He served as a Ward Councilman for the City of Willoughby for eight years and served as President of Council. He also served as Foreman of the Lake County Grand Jury.
Bob was also a 22-year member of the Willoughby Civil Service Commission, a member and Past President of the Lake Metro Parks Board of Park Commissioners for over 20 years, a member of the Holden Arboretum and the Willoughby and Willoughby Hills Historical Societies.
Survivors are his daughters, Shelley (Darren) Muchnicki of Mentor and Kristy (Dennis) Murphy of Carmel, Indiana; grandchildren, Ethan and Aidan Muchnicki and Dennis, James, and Ella Murphy; and his brother, Evans Riggin of Willoughby Hills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evens and Gertrude Riggin and stepson, Kevin Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to the Lake Metro Parks Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center, c/o Lake Metro Parks, 11211 Spear Road, Concord Township, OH 44077 or Rescue Village, (Geauga County Humane Society), 15463 Chillicothe Road, Novelty, OH 44072.
