Robert E. Schupp

Services for Robert E. Schupp, 85, of Kirtland, will be at 10 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Grace Episcopal Church, 36200 Ridge Road, Willoughby. The Rev. James Greer will officiate at the service.

Final resting place will be in North Kirtland Cemetery following the services at the Church.

Mr. Schupp passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby.

Born April 4, 1928 in Kirtland, he was a lifelong Kirtland resident.

Mr. Schupp was a 1946 graduate of Kirtland High School, where he was class president and played on the championship basketball team. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1958, honorably discharged at the rank of First Lieutenant. During his service, he graduated from artillery school at Ft. Sill, OK in class number 61 in 1957. After his military service, he returned to The Ohio State University where he graduated cum laude with his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

Locally, he served as past president of the Northeast Ohio Growers Cooperative, and also served on the Kirtland Cemetery Board, the Lake County Board of Education and also on the board at Auburn Vocational School.

Mr. Schupp was a fruit grower and worked with his father and brother in the family business, Schupp Orchards in Kirtland.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clarice Jeanne (Rawlinson) Schupp; son, James R. (Melanie) Schupp of Aspers, PA and daughter, Jane Schupp of Morgantown, WV; granddaughter, Martha Jeanne Schupp; sister, Caroline (Lorant) Pogany and sister-in-law, Doris Schupp, both of Kirtland. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Fannie (Ellsworth) Schupp; his brother, Joseph Schupp and his sister, Frances Ellsworth Schupp.

He was the loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and was well-loved in return by his family and friends. All his life he enjoyed the devoted companionship of dogs he loved.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Grace Episcopal Church Foundation, 36200 Ridge Road, Willoughby, OH 44094 or the Lake County Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Boulevard, Unit E, Mentor, OH 44060.
