Graveside services for Robert A. Smalley, 87, of Eastlake, will be at 10 AM on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Willoughby Memorial Gardens, 38650 Lakeshore Boulevard, Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Mr. Smalley passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Madison Health Care.
Born February 9, 1934 in Cleveland, he has lived in Eastlake for more than 60 years.
He served in the National Guard and was a member of Collinwood Lodge 582 F. & A.M. for more than 60 years, where he served as Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Al Koran Shrine and volunteered many years transporting burned patients to the Children’s’ Hospitals.
He was also a Martial Arts instructor for 25 years in Isshinryu Karate and held a private pilot license. He was a lifelong learner, scout leader and enjoyed camping, boating, music, playing bass guitar and fishing and was a certified scuba diver.
Mr. Smalley was a tool and die maker by trade, starting Caterpillar Corporation. After his retirement, he was founded TWO-II-M Company, where he designed and made dies.
Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Alice (Egleston) Smalley; children, Dixie Duncan; Robert (Jamie) Smalley and Carl (Christy) Smalley; 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and their families. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Mary (Snyder) Smalley and his sister and brother-in-law, Sally Ann and Tom Carlozzi.
