Memorial service for Robert John Vanio, age 81, will be at 11 AM Monday, May 5, 2025 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby. Family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Monday, prior to the service.
Robert passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025. Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Robert was a long-time resident of Eastlake, Ohio, before moving to a care facility in Mentor for his final years.
Robert is survived by his loving daughter, Rosemarie (Tom) Showalter; grandchildren, Paige (Ethan) McLaughlin, Victoria (James) Potter, Grace (Michael) Armbruster, and Josiah Showalter; great-grandchildren, Ellie McLaughlin and Calihan Potter; his sister, Maryann Brooks; and many devoted nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose; brother, Richard; twin sister, Roberta; and his mother, Helen Azzarello.
As a young man, he proudly joined the U.S. Coast Guard but shortly thereafter, he received a medical discharge. He became a skilled barber and later worked at Chase Brass & Copper Co. for 10 years until its closure. Robert then returned to his passion for barbering and established his own shop, Shore Vine Barbershop, until his retirement.
Robert enjoyed taking Sunday drives with his wife to Middlefield, Ohio. His interests included fishing, golfing, reading, and watching western movies. He was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed listening to games on the radio and watching his beloved Cleveland Indians.
Above all, Robert was a man of deep faith who loved reading and studying the Bible. He found great fulfillment in sharing God's gift of salvation through Jesus with others. His steadfast faith guided him throughout his life and provided comfort to those around him.
Robert's warm spirit, dedication to family, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
