Ronald Chapnick

A service to celebrate the life of Ronald Chapnick, M.D., 84, of Kirtland, will be held at 7:30 PM on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

Dr. Chapnick passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015.

Born January 1, 1931 in The Bronx, New York, he has lived in Kirtland for the past 54 years.

He was a graduate of New York University where he received his undergraduate degree in 1951 and his medical degree in 1955. Coming to Cleveland, he served an internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland, followed by a residency at the Institute of Pathology. He then joined the United States Army where he served as a Captain in Landstuhl, Germany in the 10th Medical Laboratory.

After his military service, he accepted a position at Lake Hospital Systems as a pathologist, and also served as Chief of Staff. He retired as Director of Pathology for the Hill and Chapnick Group in 1997 after 35 years of service. He was also a member of the faculty at Case Western Reserve University for many years.

Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Sonia (Waskiewicz); children, Katherine Kostecka of Kirtland; David (Donna) Chapnick of Long Island, NY; Rebekah Chapnick, M.D. of Shaker Heights, Laura Chapnick of Cincinnati and Julie Chapnick of Plymouth, Mass.; grandchildren, Kyle (Kayla) Kostecka, Kory Kostecka, Sarah Chapnick, Marianna Chapnick, Marc Chapnick and Oscar Chapnick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Leah (Eisenberg) Chapnick and brother, Nathan Chapnick.

The family will receive friends from 2-4, 6-7:30 PM, on Friday, October 23, 2015, at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at South Kirtland Cemetery.
