Ronald McLaren passed away peacefully on September 18, 2022. Born April 3, 1935, in Cleveland, he grew up in Mentor where he also started his life with his late wife, Patricia (Birkenhead), whom he married in 1963, and raised two loving daughters. He had been a resident of Concord Twp for the last 34 years.
A 1953 graduate of Mentor High School, Ron graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957 with a degree in Zoology and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1958 and served in Germany, spending his free time exploring Europe’s many historic landmarks. Ron was employed as a chemist and quality control engineer with Lubrizol Corporation for 41 years, retiring in 1999. He had a lifelong interest in golf and played on many teams through Lubrizol even after his retirement. He also joined his wife in showing Persian cats, and traveled to historic U.S. sites with his sister, Bonnie.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, his parents, Owen McLaren and Marjorie McLaren, and in-laws, Arnell and Ruth Birkenhead. Leaving to carry on his memory are daughters Dr. Carole McLaren (Thomas McLaren), Christine Smith (Christopher) and their children Megan, Ian and Alexander, and his sister, Bonnie J. McLaren.
Private family services were held graveside at Mentor Cemetery on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
