Born February 10, 1922 in Prairie Twp., (Holmes County), she has lived in Willoughby for the past 70 years.
She was the fifth of six daughters born to H. J. and Mary (Thome) Breneman who, from 1931, operated a family farm on the outskirts of Shreve, OH. Ruth graduated from Shreve High School in 1940, after which she attended the former Spencerian Business College in Cleveland.
In 1943, she married Fred Bennett Brower of Caldwell, OH, and settled with him in Willoughby, where he held a position with the former Victor R. Browning Company, a manufacturer of overhead cranes.
Always generous of her time and energy in helping others, she will be a much missed presence in our lives.
Ruth was a life-long Presbyterian, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby, where she enjoyed singing in the Church choir. She was an avid, skilled bowler, an accomplished seamstress, and in her retirement years, she has enjoyed traveling with friends, quilting and gardening.
Mrs. Brower was employed as a legal secretary for the firm of Baker, Hostetler and Patterson from 1941 until 1946. Ruth was a long-time employee of the Willoughby Municipal Court, from 1960-1988, ending her career there as Chief Deputy of the Civil Department. In 1988 she was honored by the Lake County Bar Association for her service at the court with the Liberty Bell Award.
Survivors include her four children, Mary Huey of Willoughby; Jane Bloodworth of Great Falls, VA; Fred Brower of Steubenville; and Ann (Peter) Stahl of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and her sister, Marie Frost of Louisville, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Fred, who passed away in 1981. Her parents, H.J. and Mary Breneman and sisters, Lucille Thomas, Luella Esterline, Louise Sprang and Wanda Jane Stolar are also deceased.
