Services for Shirley A. (Gross) Dessner, 90, of Painesville Township, will be at 10 AM on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dessner passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Embassy of Painesville Healthcare Center in Painesville Township.
Born March 28, 1932 in South Bend, Indiana, she has lived in Lake County for the past 70 years.
She was an active member of Mentor United Methodist Church, where she served as the Church secretary for many years, and was involved with the Gingerbread House and the Couples Club. She was a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, an avid bridge player, knitter, avid reader, member of two book clubs and an awesome baker, who made the best Christmas cookies. She was also a member of the Mentor Miscellany Club and avid traveler with her husband, Herb, especially enjoying a trip to Antarctica.
In addition to her work as the church secretary, she also sold real estate for several years for the former Smythe-Cramer real estate company.
Survivors are her husband of 70 years, Herb; daughter, Deborah Jose; grandchildren, Paul (Mary) Jose, Phil (Taryn Hye) Jose, Annie Jose and Amanda (Brandon) Lovejoy; great-grandchildren, Hazel and Piper Jose and Sophia and Brandon, Jr. Lovejoy.
She was preceded in death by her son, Craig in 2006 and her parents, Frank and Mary (Smith) Gross.
Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery following the service on Saturday.
