T. Charlene Short

T. Charlene (Carwithen) Short, 89, of Willoughby, Ohio, passed away on August 19, 2026. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on April 24, 1937, to the late Frank and Athaleen (Buckholt) Carwithen.

Charlene was a homemaker and above all else a caretaker. She had a remarkable way of making sure everyone around her was taken care of, often putting the needs of her family before her own. In her earlier years, she was a surgical nurse in Charleston, before moving to Cleveland in 1956 and later, Willoughby in 1968.

Charlene was a great cook, loved sewing and gardening, and being with her family. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy (Bill) DeRose and Suzanne (Tony) Bledsoe; grandchildren, Michael DeRose, Brad (Chrissy) Bledsoe, and Danielle DeRose; great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Haley, Ty, and Lucian. She leaves behind nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Roger Short in 2019 and her parents. Her siblings, Don, Ronnie, Bob, Elaina, Mac, and Albert are also deceased.

Family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby, Ohio.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, August 27, 2026 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church Cemetery, 36 Norwood Road, Charleston, West Virginia.
