Services for Wayne Emerson Crookshanks, 79, o Painesville Township, will be at 10 AM on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Mr. Crookshanks passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home.
Born February 20, 1935 in Willoughby, he was a lifelong Lake County resident.
He attended Bowling Green State University and graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration. He was President of the Forest Park Lawn Bowling Club for 15 years; a member of the Aberdeen Family History Society of Scotland. He enjoyed researching genealogy and was able to travel to Aberdeen, Scotland. He played the bagpipes. For 35 years, he sponsored children in India through the Christian Children’s Fund giving them an education and jobs for their futures. A United States Army veteran, he served two years active duty and four years in the reserves, stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He was a Specialist 4th Class, working in classified documents.
Mr. Crookshanks was the founder and president of the W.E. Crookshanks Company, selling castings and forgings to industry.
Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Loretta J. (Brown) Crookshanks; daughters, Lori (Brent) Burke of St. Petersburg, FL and Julie Long of Round Rock, TX; grandson, Owen Michael Long; siblings, Vivian (Lester) Tinner of Unionville; Noreen (Dick) Ensign of Concord Township and Vern (Claudia) Crookshanks of Thompson Township. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eva (Johnson) Crookshanks and siblings, Neil Crookshanks and Jean Williamson.
The family will receive friends from 1-5 PM on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert A. Gaston will officiate at the services. Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery.
